Petty Officer 1st Class Chris Church is a course developer for the Mass Communication Foundations course at the Defense Information School at Fort George G. Meade, Md. He is also in charge of preparing over 130 instructors to teach the new course, designed to consolidate and update the essential skills of DOD strategic communicators.

Church enlisted in the Navy in 2009 as a Mass Communication Specialist. He’s served on board the USS Theodore Roosevelt and at AFN Korea’s regional news bureau. In 2013, he was selected as the U.S. Navy Broadcaster of the Year. From 2015 to 2017, he worked for Stars and Stripes, serving as the organization’s Middle East reporter covering U.S. military operations in the region including the campaign to defeat the Islamic State and maritime security operations. Church also has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and is completing his Masters in International Relations at American University.
