Bio
Mark R. Smith has been writing in the film, video production and technology space since late 1990. His first gig was as the staff writer with In Motion Film & Video Magazine, in Annapolis, Md., where his duties continued after the magazine was purchased by Phillips Business Information in April 1993; he was named managing editor when In Motion became a quarterly mid-Atlantic supplement to Hollywood-based Film & Video in January 1995.

Since the late 1990s, Smith has enjoyed long runs with trade publications like Markee and Futurenet-owned TV Technology, where he still contributes to this day, as he does with another company-owned publication, Mix. Notable prior engagements include Via Satellite, Post, Digital Television, International Cinematographer’s Guild Magazine and Government Video, among
others.

He also been writing for business-to-business publications since April 1993, notably The Daily Record, of Baltimore, until 2009; in 2002, he joined The Business Monthly, in Columbia, Md., and was named editor-in-chief the following year. He has been freelancing since October 2018 with The Business Monthly, TV Technology, Mix, Expansion Solutions and At Ease, all monthly publications, as well as Georgetown University Law Center.

During his career, Smith has often written about his other passions, notably leisure, music and sports (surprise), and enjoys pointing out that his beloved Washington Capitals and Washington Nationals finally won championships within a 16-month span; that means he can now die happy ― twice. He is a denizen of the mid-Atlantic and lives at its core in Odenton, Md.
