Bio
As an aspiring musician and architecture student at Princeton and Columbia Universities in the 1960's, John Storyk’s career has followed a natural pursuit of his two favorite subjects. Nearly fifty years later, his occupational inclinations have produced the design and construction of over 3500 world-class audio and video production centers, recording studios, radio stations, educational, sports, corporate and entertainment facilities, clubs, and performance venues.
Storyk’s first commission was for Jimi Hendrix in 1969. That studio, Electric Lady, continues to be one of New York city’s premier recording studios, churning out hit records today in its original Greenwich Village location. He and wife/business partner, Beth Walters co-founded WSDG Walters-Storyk Design Group in 1989. Today the now global architectural/acoustical design firm has a staff of over fifty designers and engineers with offices and representation in NY, SF, LA, Miami, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, China, Argentina, Brazil and Beijing,
An eleven time winner of the prestigious NAMM TEC Award for outstanding achievement in Acoustics/Facility Design, recent WSDG credits range from private studios for Jay-Z, Bruce Springsteen, Harry Connick, Jr. and Alicia Keys; to multi million dollar complexes in Kuala Lumpur and Qatar; to Paul Epworth’s Church Studios in London and Annie Mincieli’s iconic Jungle City Studios in New York City; to performance complexes including NY’s Jazz At Lincoln Center performance complex, Le Poisson Rouge and 54 Below; to the award winning nine studio complex for Berklee College of Music, Boston. Most recently, WSDG has completed the designs and installations for two of the nation's largest podcasting groups, Stitcher and Spotify's Gimlet - both multi-studio facilities located in New York City.
John extensively teaches and presents guest lectures in studio architecture and acoustics, while maintaining a adjunct professor position at Berklee College of Music, Boston. He and his wife, Beth maintain homes in Highland, New York, Durham, North Carolina, and Akumal, Mexico.
